up next for the book club.

my life in france

a year ago [or maybe it was two], one of my favorite people and i snuck in a few extra large diet cokes to see “julie and julia” at the dollar theater. like most everyone who saw it, i left the theater feeling an added measure of inspiration and motivation. i wanted to cook and blog and take photos and travel to france.
i wanted to buy julia’s book: you know, the french one. it was $100. so i thought about checking it out from the library. 50 people on the waiting list. needless to say, julia child went on the backburner for a little while.
that is, until i went home a few months ago and saw julie powell’s book “julie and julia” sitting on my mom’s desk. remember the wave of inspiration that seemed to crash down on me [in a good way] during the movie, i instantly picked it up and started reading. within a chapter or two, the book was back on the desk. maybe it was the f word which managed to completely offend me and turn me off from reading, i don’t know.
luckily, also on my mother’s desk, was “my life in france” by julia child. since her part of the movie was my favorite, i was hoping that i would fare a little better with reading her book. i could only read about half of the book before leaving california. and while i generally sneak my mom’s books with me on the plane back to utah, this one was a library copy, so there was no sneaking.
however, i now own my very own copy and i would love for you to read along with me!
and would you like to know my favorite part of julia’s story thus far? she was thirty-seven when she wad living in france and discovered her love of cooking. thirty-seven. if you have ever felt too old to accomplish a dream, like you have waited too long and that ship has sailed, reading about this woman’s life will make you see that you are completely wrong.
also, please don’t blame me if this book makes you want to pack up and move to france.
so who’s with me? since february is a short month [and i was a little late with the book announcement], we will meet back here on MONDAY MARCH 7TH. hope you will join us!
xoxo.

I was just linked here via Marta’s blog, but I am totally in! This book has been on my nightstand for oh, I don’t know, six months now? Horrible. In my defense, I have read several books in the meantime. This sounds like the kick I need to get this one read–I’m excited!
